Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC)

This state agency, co-administrator of New York's 529 College Savings Program, helps families pay for college with the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and guaranteed student loans. HESC also offers guidance on selecting, applying to, and paying for college.

New York State Office of Higher Education (NYSOHE)

This agency coordinates New York State's higher-education system and collects and publishes information on the quality and status of higher education in the state.

The State University of New York (SUNY)

SUNY is the nation's largest comprehensive state university system, with 64 campuses throughout New York State. It offers more than 7,000 degree and certificate programs and nearly 2 million workforce and professional development programs.

The City University of New York (CUNY)

CUNY is the nation's largest urban university. It has 11 senior colleges, 7 community colleges, an honors college, and 5 graduate and professional schools.

New York's Private Colleges & Universities

This site features more than 100 private colleges in New York State offering many diverse areas of academic study. You'll find profiles on each of the schools, details on open house events, and information about financial aid.

Association of Proprietary Colleges (APC)

This organization represents 16 New York State higher-education institutions, with 28 campuses across the state. Together, they serve more than 40,000 students.

Before you invest, consider whether your or the beneficiary's home state offers any state tax or other benefits that are only available for investments in that state's 529 plan. Other state benefits may include financial aid, scholarship funds, and protection from creditors.

The Comptroller of the State of New York and the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation are the Program Administrators and are responsible for implementing and administering the Direct Plan.

Ascensus Broker Dealer Services, LLC, serves as Program Manager and, in connection with its affiliates, provides recordkeeping and administrative support services and is responsible for day-to-day operations of the Direct Plan. The Vanguard Group, Inc., serves as the Investment Manager. Vanguard Marketing Corporation provides marketing and distribution services to the Direct Plan.

New York's 529 College Savings Program currently includes two separate 529 plans. The Direct Plan is sold directly by the Program. You may also participate in the Advisor-Guided Plan, which is sold exclusively through financial professionals and has different investment options and higher fees and expenses as well as financial professional compensation.
